Drexel Virtual Reality

November 22, 2016

The Drexel University Virtual Reality (DUVR) club, where students experiment and use the latest virtual and augmented reality technologies, recently participated in the MIT Media Lab’s Reality Virtually Hackathon – the world’s largest VR competition. DUVR won 1st prize in the category of Human Well-Being for their project StudyVR: A Kinesthetic Learning Framework for HTC Live created in only thirty-two hours! StudyVR is a learning tool for grade school students to connect with their science classes using hands-on interaction with a room-scale virtual reality system to encourage students to learn on a deeper cognitive level. You can learn more about their outstanding project here.

DUVR holds weekly meetings on Thursday evenings at 9pm in the URBN Center’s Motion Capture Lab, Room 246.  At the meetings members collaborate on building unique applications utilizing new technologies including Microsoft’s Hololens and the HTC live. They’re working together on a variety projects ranging from a bow and arrow simulator to an exploration of medical illnesses at a cellular level and are planning to demonstrate their applications in an end-of-winter-term showcase. All students are welcome to attend. Virtual Reality has applications across all industries and DUVR is always looking for new ideas and new perspectives. They’re currently seeking students interested in game development, filmmaking and audio engineering. Learn more at facebook.com/groups/drexelvr.
